The Perfect Combo of Safety & Style

In the interest of getting straight to the point, we’re delighted with the funky and functional bicycle helmets we were sent to review from UK company, Hornit. These guys have been around for a while now, selling bike horns, lights and other accessories that help cyclists get noticed in over forty countries. They recently launched Mini Hornit Lids, a range of fun and functional kids’ helmets that tick all of the boxes when it some to style and substance.

Mini Hornit Lids Review

Personally, I love the aesthetic of the rounder, more versatile helmet and I immediately knew that my kids would love them too for both biking and scooting.

What we liked…

Fit: The helmets come in two sizes: Small (48-53cm) and Medium (53-58cm).  My five-year-old and three-year-old both comfortably wear the smaller size. The adjustable fit system – with a handy dial to tighten and loosen the helmet at the back – provided a perfect fit for even my two-year-old.
Comfort: Lightweight materials mean that the helmet doesn’t weigh heavy on little heads.
Style: There are currently eight designs to choose from. Much to their excitement, I let my girls choose their own designs – Pug Puppies & Head Candy. The bright colours and quirky patterns are perfect and my girls love wearing them. No arguments, no protestations, no hassle!
Ventilation: 11 air vents (no less) to prevent sweaty hot heads and general helmet frustration. Phew.
Safety: Compliance with relevant safety standards and are EN1078 and CPSC tested.

Extra love for…

The battery-operated LED light on the back of the helmet. It’s such a clever feature that’s perfect for darker mornings and evenings. With three settings, it’s activated by simply pressing the middle of the light.

This beginner had plenty of falls but in the manner of Chumbawumba, she got right back up again.

How to measure your child’s head for a helmet

Just in case, like me, you hadn’t much of a clue, here’s how to get this right so they’re safe and happy in their helmets: Take a fabric tape measure or a piece of string an measure the level circumference of the head about an inch above the eye-brows.
