YOUR MAMA MERCH SEARCH ENDS HERE!
Parents are more likely than ever to speak openly and honestly about the ups and downs of parent life. Not only are we increasingly inclined to wear our hearts on our sleeves, the current slogan t-shirt trend suggests that we’re happy to wear our sentiments on our clothing too. It’s safe to say that mama merch is having quite the moment.
Here are some of my ultimate faves; female-led brands selling fun, bold clothing and accessories for parents, with ethical retail values at the heart of their businesses. Whether you’re after a quirky gift for a pal or something fun and inspiring for yourself, this list of top mama merchants has you covered.
1. The Fmly Store Mama Merch
Molly Gunn, the UK blogger behind Selfish Mother, started this family-centric, ethical clothing company in a bid to raise funds for women affected by war. It has spiralled into a thriving online business and last year she opened her first bricks-and-mortar store in Somerset.
This guide wouldn’t be complete without the cult ‘Mother’ tee, worn by Instamums the length and breadth of the UK. Along with clever statement sweaters and t-shirts for women, The Fmly Store also stocks kidswear and dad gear. These guys donate a generous hunk of the profits to a plethora of charities they feel strongly about. Feel good factor guaranteed. Sure, it’d be rude not to, really.
Selfish Mother & The Bonniemob LOVE knitted jumper £110, Grey & Gold WINGING IT scoop sweatshirt £50, charcoal & silver MOTHER oversized tee £30, WE’RE ALL WONDER WOMEN sweatshirt £50. All available from www.thefmlystore.com.
2. Mutha.Hood Mama Merch
If you don’t follow Muthahood‘s Gemma on Instagram then you should. If you don’t use Instagram then you should start using it just so you can start following Gemma. Genuine, effortlessly funny and oh-so-likable, she’ll make you feel good about life in the same way your best mate does.
Another blogger-turned-business woman, her range of clothing and accessories aims to celebrate the empowerment of motherhood. Her affordable pieces ooze fun, personality and #stronggirlvibes. Sustainable, climate-neutral business is very important to Gemma and her clothing range is manufactured in line with Fair Wear standards.
STRONG GIRLS scoop sweatshirt £37, MOTHER LIKE NO ONE’S JUDGING mug £9.50, MUTHA HUSTLER pin £6.25, MOTHERING LIKE A BOSS tote £14.00. All available from www.muthahoodgoods.com
3. Parent Apparel Mama Merch
‘Parent Apparel was set up by two parents keen to provide some light-hearted, stylish clobber for the modern day family. The original off-beat and eye-catching designs are aimed at injecting colour and humour to the highs and lows of everyday parenting.’
Items from their clever, colourful range are instantly recognisable and have the catchiest of captions. One of everything, please! If you’re a Mother Pukka fan then check out their recent ‘Parenting the Sh*t out of Life’ collaboration with Anna Whitehouse for extra solidarity lolz. They’ve also recently launched their first charity collaboration with Tommy’s.
GIN & ON IT monochrome ladies t-shirt £26, RAISE & SHINE ladies t-shirt £26, GOOD YAWNING wide neck sweatshirt £42, Mother Pukka & Parenting Apparel PARENTING THE SH*T OUT OF LIFE Shopper £20. All available from www.parent-apparel.com.
4. Black & Beech Mama Merch
Fashion Design lecturer Stacey is the Irish (huzzah!) founder of Black & Beech, a mama merch brand with strong feminist convictions. Her statement jewellery, prints, pins and tees have been making timely waves on social media. Her pieces are honest, inspiring and relatable, a bit like Cardiff-based Stacey herself.
The mum of one originally started out making scandi-inspired teething jewellery but her more recent tongue-in-cheek pieces – like the ‘Coffee & Calpol’ pins and necklaces – have mothers talking. Black & Beech donates to a number of charities including Mankind, Plan International, Tommy’s and London Irish Abortion Rights Campaign. Clothing is organic cotton, climate neutral and fair trade. She also stocks a thoughtful selection of care packages for fellow parents in the trenches.
RAD DAD T-Shirt £22.95, LIQUID GOLD necklace £16.95, COFFEE & CALPOL necklace £12.95 – £16.95, A MOTHER’S PLACE print £9.95. All available from www.blackandbeech.com
5. Ren & Gem Mama Merch
Ren & Gem is the brainchild of two Belfast-based sisters and mothers who craved comfortable, affordable, ‘throw on’ loungewear that showed who they were – proud mamas. When they couldn’t find the products they wanted, they decided to create the gear themselves, clever things.
Their screen printed sweatshirts and tees are made from 100% organic cotton and produced ethically in conjunction with the Fair to Wear Foundation.
RAISINGMYSQUAD t-shirt £18, RAISING TWINS t-shirt £18, RAISING BOYS sweatshirt £36, RAISING GIRLS t-shirt £18. All available from www.renandgem.com
6. Mother Like No Other
‘Had enough of strangers telling you how to parent? Let the sweater do the talking. You’re one in a million. You’re a mother like no other.’
Mum of two girls, Becky stocks an edgy range of t-shirts, sweaters and accessories with strong messages of female empowerment. She also sells some gorgeous kids’ slogan tops including ‘Girls Make the World Go Round’ and ‘I am Strong, I am Brave, I am Smart’. Fabulous.
EVERY MAMA IS DIFFERENT phone case £16, MOTHER LIKE NO OTHER sweatshirt £28.99, A MOTHER’S LOVE pouch £12, STRONG, CAPABLE WOMAN t-shirt £18.99 . All available from http://motherlikenoothercom
