I was delighted to be nominated for The Sunshine Blogger Award by Ellen from Babies, Biscuits & Booze. As a newbie, it was a real honour to be included so cheers, Ellen! A giant, sunny thank you to you!
Since this is only my second tag – and I can’t say that the first one was even mine since it was all about Mr. C (you can read The Daddy Tag here) – I’ll explain a little about the whole business. The Sunshine Blogger Tag is a way of recognising others in the blogosphere, spreading the blog love and promoting connectivity. It also gives me an opportunity to share a little about me. It’s a standard Q&A in which I answer a set of questions set by the nominating blogger.
And away we go…
The Power of Love by Hewey Lewis and the News. I am an unashamed Back to the Future fan and have been since I first laid eyes on Marty McFly on his skateboard in 1985. Much to Mr C’s embarrassment, I play giant air-guitar splendidly, so this particular song ticks a lot of boxes.
2. If you were reincarnated as an animal, what would you be and why?
Controversial comment #1: I’m not really an animal lover. I am allergic to cats and horses and probably lots of other hirsute creatures if I get close enough to them. For that reason, I struggled with this question so…
Contoversial comment #2: I cheated and completed an online quiz that determines which animal type best suits your personality and it turns out I’m most like a penguin. Who knew! Here’s what it said…
You are the penguin. You take life in its stride, not letting the big issues of the world stand in your way. You like spending time with large groups of friends and you are considered a bit of a socialite jumping back and forth between different groups of friends. However, you still have time for your family and remain close to them.
Controversial comment #3: These quizzes are so full of crap. I hate the cold and I’m not that popular. Don’t believe a word of it! 😉
What’s your favourite item of clothing?
I wish I had some coveted designer item I could include here or something cool that I picked up from a little vintage shop that would make me sound trendy. Alas, I do not. I live in jeans and trainers. I struggle to put an outfit together to go out these days. I do have a nice blazer from Zara that manages to smarten up any old thing so I’ll choose that.
Which fictional character do you think you’re most like?
I reckon I’m a Miss Rabbit – Bridget Jones hybrid. Much like the multi-tasking, industrious wonder that is Miss Rabbit, a stay-at-home-mum is pulled in all directions doing dozens of different jobs on any given day. We are nurse, cleaner, teacher, chef and entertainment manager all rolled into one slightly frazzled package. There’s a touch of the Bridget Joneses about me because I’ve been known to be a bit clumsy or say the wrong thing at times. Though like Bridge in the recent movie, I’ve managed to pull it all together and am a little less farcical now than I was in my twenties. I hope.
What’s your favourite wine? (or if you don’t drink wine, favourite beer/spirit?)
Any wine! I’m partial to a couple of glasses of something Spanish or Italian of a Friday night. Wine or gin and I’m a happy camper.
How regularly do you blog? Would you like to blog more often?
I’ve only been blogging for about six weeks and it’s safe to say I am still in the honeymoon period. Though that’s a rubbish analogy because honeymooners would have more confidence and less fear than a fledgling blogger who is constantly wondering if she is making a complete ass of herself. I check out social media every day (I’m still trying to come to terms with that side of blogging) and I try to post on the blog once or twice a week. That’s as much as Miss Rabbit can do at the moment.
Which singer or band do you wish you could see live?
That’s a tough one. Back when we didn’t appreciate our freedom we used to go to concerts and festivals regularly. That’s something I definitely miss since becoming a parent. I’m off on a bit of a tangent now but there are two Irish festivals – Electric Picnic and Body & Soul – that I would love to go to again at some point, either with or without children. Perhaps when the toddler is older we can look into it. Or maybe we could offload the kiddos and go ourselves? Yes, that actually sounds like a much better idea. If anyone wants three small but perfectly formed redheads for a long weekend, drop me a line.
I don’t have a party trick, which makes me really sad. Do you have one and what is it?
Well, I don’t like to brag but I have been told I’m an EXCELLENT whistler. I’ve even wondered at times if I should join some sort of whistling choir. Is there such a thing? I’m not sure how well it would go down at a party, though. It’s a bit lame, isn’t it? And not really a trick…
What is your must-have item since having kids?
That’s an easy one; slings. I didn’t have a carrier for the buck and only discovered baby-wearing when I had my first daughter. It was a lifesaver. I quickly realised how content and cosy she was in my arms and how much easier it was to look after a two-year-old with my hands free. It’s the one thing I would encourage all new mums to invest in or at least try. I still couldn’t be without my Tula carrier. Concealer is a close second.
I am buying you cake. What are you having?
Why thank you! Baked cheesecake, please. And if they’re trying to pawn some regular cheesecake off on you, I’ll have a slice of lemon meringue instead. Heavy on the cream. It’s been a long week.
